HOCKEY: Crestwood falls

The Crestwood hockey team finished its final week of the season with two tough losses.

In their final game of the season, the Chargers fell 7-2 to Royal Oak Shrine.

Shrine took a 2-1 lead after the opening period with the only Crestwood scoring coming from Matt Sandburg.

Matt Kirenchyk and Johnny Segasser had the assits.

The middle period was full of bad penalties and Shrine added another score on the power play.

Things fell apart in the third period and Crestwood was outscored 4-1.

Jacob Noel finished the Charger scoring, assisted by Lucas Johnston and Kirenchyk.

Despite the loss, Crestwood Coach Steve Popp said he thought the game was much closer than the final score indicated after only a two goal difference halfway through the third period.

“Bad penalties killed us all game long and we were never able to get into a steady flow during this game,” Popp said. “A couple of bad plays and bounces led to RO Shrine’s goals, and these are mistakes that we must overcome if we want to be successful in the playoffs.”

Earlier in the week, the Chargers fell 6-0 to Riverview Gabriel Richard.

“We got outplayed in every aspect of the game,” Popp said. “It really was just an awful game that I want to put behind us. This game does not reflect how we have been all season long as a team.”

The team has been focusing their practices on playoffs and last night played the winner of the Dearborn-Monroe game.
