The Bloomfield Chargers had a bear sighting on Saturday night ... and it wasn’t pretty.

In a game played on at the Detroit Skating Center, the Bloomfield United Chargers were defeated by the Berkley Bears 8-2 in an OAA White contest.

The Bears opened the scoring early with the first goal of the game scored by Nolan Young just 29 seconds into the game. Gianni Bonello got credit for the assist. The Bears scored again at 11:10 of the first with a goal from Joey Leider. Max Dooley and Nolan Young got the assists.

Berkley scored again at 3:41 of the second period with a goal from Max Dooley with assists from Ian Melrose and Robby Flannery. Berkley made it 4-0 with a goal at 5:51 of the second from Curtis Carne. Assists went to Shane Goldberg and Zach Segall.

The Chargers got on the board at 6:41 of the second with a goal from Johnny Artemenko. The goal was unassisted.

The Bears made it 5-1 on a goal scored at 9:27 by Zach Segall and an assist to Nolan Young.

At 14:07 of the second the Bears extended the lead to 6-1 with a goal from Ian Melrose and assists to Max Dooley and Robby Flannery.

The Chargers made it 6-2 with a late second period goal from Connor Holman. The unassisted goal was scored at 15:22 of the second.

The Bears scored twice in the third period, once at 3:18 on a goal from Max Dooley with assists to Zach Segall and Joey Leider, and their final goal at 11:42 of the third on a goal from Ian Melrose with assists to Max Dooley and Joey Leider.

The Chargers goalies were Nick Dingwall, who stopped 23 shots and Skyler Kallabat, who stopped 19.

After the game Chargers head coach Bruce McAlister said “Berkley is always a tough team. We plan to put this game behind us and focus on Avondale next week.”

The Chargers play again on Thursday, when they play Avondale at the Detroit Skating Center. Game time is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
