Novi set to challenge McAdoo's buzzer beater for West Bloomfield in regional finals with state WITH PHOTOS

  • Novi head boys basketball coach Brandon Sinawi will be contesting Wednesday night's controversial ending of the Wildcats 67-66 double-overtime defeat at the hands of West Bloomfield in a Class A regional championship game hosted at Walled Lake Northern.

WALLED LAKE - Novi will file an official protest with the MHSAA home office in East Lansing Thursday challenging the conclusion of the Wildcats' 67-66 loss in double overtime of a Class A boys basketball regional championship game played at Walled Lake Northern High School Wednesday evening.

West Bloomfield prevailed on senior guard Kevin McAdoo's lay-up at the horn, however video and still photos of the game-winner show the ball appearing to go into the basket after the clock struck 0:00.

"I doubt anything will happen (with the protest), but I will continue to fight for my kids until the very end," Novi head coach Brandon Sinawi said.

McAdoo had 34 points and scored his game-winning hoop off teammate Garrett Winn's swipe of a Novi inbounds pass with two seconds left. Novi was ahead 66-62 with 12 ticks remaining.

West Bloomfield (16-8) advances to the state quarterfinals at Calihan Hall on the campus of the University of Detroit-Mercy next Tuesday versus Troy. Novi (18-7) got 27 points from junior Traveon Maddox. It was Maddox's 25-foot rainbow triple at the first-overtime buzzer that forced a second extra session.

Sinawi has guided his Wildcats to two straight district crowns. His 2017 club posted a league-championship banner in the KLAA Central.
