NDP girls, Cranbrook boys take home regional titles, advance to D2 ski finals WITH PHOTOS

Both Notre Dame Prep and Bloomfield Hills Cranbrook-Kingswood’s boys and girls ski teams qualified for the Division 2 state finals with top three finishes at Monday’s regional at Pine Knob.

Led by Katelyn Kozole’s first place finish in the slalom competition and sixth place finish in the giant slalom, Notre Dame Prep’s girls topped the girls’ field to punch their ticket. K.C. Kennedy and Julia Jenaway – in slalom – and Sydney Lintol, Kozole and Sophia Gunterman – in giant slalom – also had top-10 finishes to help the Irish to the victory.

Cranbrook’s Grace Krsul won the giant slalom race, while finishing fifth in slalom to lead the Cranes, who also had top-10 finishes from Annabel Geissbuhle (in both events) and Claire Brophy.

Mt Pleasant finished third on the girls’ side, also qualifying for the state finals, which will be held at Boyne Highlands on Feb. 27.

Cranbrook’s boys edged out Notre Dame Prep for the regional title. Jevon Hovey won the giant slalom competition and was seventh in the slalom to pace the Cranes. Teammates Lawson Brophy and Kyle Ghesquiere finished top-10 in both events, while Hunter Shuert also snagged a top-10 finish in the giant slalom for Cranbrook.

Joe Warsecke and Will Grubbs (slalom and giant slalom) and Nick Schulty (slalom) had top-10 finishes for Notre Dame Prep. The third team to advance for the boys was Flint Powers.
