LAKE ORION - Familiar foes were apparent at Thursday's Division 1 team wrestling district where the competing schools were either in the same league or practically a stone's throw away from each other.

Rochester, Rochester Adams, Stoney Creek and the host school, Lake Orion, were the combatants and when the smoke cleared, Rochester Adams evolved as the district champion, topping Lake Orion 46-19 in the finals.

"They're (Lake Orion) really well coached (and) our seniors stepped up there (with) Hunter Lee at 215, Louis Eble at 152, Varun Mangal at 112 and Johnny Buchanan at 171, they all got pins and that was a big deal," said Adams coach Mike Holtz. "The boys were excited to compete. It was our third district title in a row and it was a special thing for this senior class to stick together the last four years."

The Highlanders topped Rochester 36-18 in the semifinal, while Lake Orion defeated Stoney Creek 54-12.

"We had three guys who had lost the first time (we faced Rochester) and won this time," Holtz said. Sophomore Jack Dunn (135), senior Matt Boileau and sophomore Reed Vogt (189) reversed their fortunes to key the victory.

"Those were three matches we were really excited about," Holtz said.

Next Wednesday's regional field, hosted by Rochester Adams, is complete with Utica Eisenhower, Clarkston, Oxford and Adams meeting for the regional crown.

Eisenhower defeated Troy 51-21 in the final at Utica after Eisenhower had beaten Troy Athens (56-17) and Troy had beaten Utica (43-31) in the semifinals. Oxford defeated Romeo 44-33 in the final at Oxford. Clarkston defeated Waterford Kettering 51-10 Wednesday in the district final at Kettering.
