ROYAL OAK - The shots began to fall. The court began to open up. It just took a half to get things going.

But things did get going for Royal Oak Shrine Tuesday night, as the Knights held off cross-town rival Royal Oak, 48-41, on their home court. Shrine blew open a two-point game, with sophomore A.J. Massucci knocking down a pair of 3-pointers to help his team open up a 12-point lead.

"We got hot, and we were able to knock down some shots," Shrine head coach Jim Skaggs said. "We picked up our intensity coming out of halftime and we got some good looks. We also created some turnovers.

"A.J. had a couple 3-pointers, and that helped."

Massucci finished with 15 points, tied with senior Mike Niehaus for the team lead. Niehaus was a force down low. Both players finished with six rebounds as well.

Royal Oak coach Aaron Smith, whose team trailed just 22-20 at halftime, was disappointed with his team's execution throughout the game.

"You've got to give them credit for taking us out of what we wanted to do," Smith said. "But it's something we've done all season long. We allow other teams to take us out of our execution, both on offense and defense. I'm just discouraged that we're allowing that to happen. We've got to get back to practice to work on that."

The Ravens led early in this contest, but surrendered the lead midway through the first quarter and trailed for most of the final three. Tyler Dawson was a bright spot in an otherwise disappointing game for Royal Oak. He scored a game-high 17 points. Tommy Adesanya added seven for the Ravens (3-3 overall).

Senior Asher Smith added seven points and collected three steals for the Knights, who improved to 4-3 overall. They will face Ann Arbor Gabriel Richard Friday night.
