Chippewa Valley was a very good team with two outs on Friday.

The Big Reds scored all four of their runs with two outs to top Rochester, 4-0, in a non-league softball game.

“After we saw the pitcher a couple of times we got things going,” Cherie Allard said. “That really helped.”

Allard and Caitlin Durkee (run) each finished with three hits for CV. Allard added a double and drove in three.

Gina Liss (double) added two hits, scored twice and drove in one, while Sarah Stevens scored a run.

The Big Reds didn’t break through until the fourth inning, despite advancing a runner to third in each of the first two innings and then one to second in the third.

“We really pulled it together when there were two outs,” Allard said. “(Thursday’s) game we just fell apart. We were just so much better today.

“We kept making error after error and really getting down on ourselves,” Allard continued. “We weren’t picking each other up. That didn’t happen today. We picked each other up all game.”

With two outs in the fourth, Liss singled to plate Stevens to open the scoring. Durkee followed with an infield single and then Allard plated Liss.

The Big Reds added two insurance runs in the sixth. Liss walked and moved to third on an infield single from Durkee, who advanced to second later without a throw. Allard laced a single to center to plate both of them.

Laura Miller gave up five hits and struck out for the win.

“We’re a very young team,” said Rochester coach Laura Guzman, who has nine underclassmen on the roster. “It’s growing pains. Our pitcher just needs to hit her spots with two outs, but we have to reciprocate on the offensive end. When they score we need to be able to score too.”

Rose Myers had two hits and stole a base for the Falcons (0-1).
