BEVERLY HILLS — There’s a reason Hartland finished the regular season as the No. 2 team in Division 1 as the Eagles dominated the individual district tournament at Birmingham Groves on Saturday.

Hartland walked away with half the district championships as all 14 wrestlers the Eagles entered in the tournament advanced to the Division 1 regional tournament at Hartland in a week.

Hartland had three wrestlers — Andrew Spisz at 189 pounds, Brandon Krol at heavyweight and Reece Hughes at 140 — win by pinning their opponents.

The Eagles also had a pair of weight classes — 103 and 152 — where both wrestlers in the championship bout were from Hartland. Kyle Kantola and Sage Castillo won those respective classes by default.

The other Eagles to claim district titles were Noah Lopez, who earned a technical fall at 125, and Lucas LaForge, who earned a decision at 171.

The rest of the field was pretty balanced as far as advancing wrestlers to regionals. Walled Lake Central, Walled Lake Northern and Birmingham Seaholm all advanced five wrestlers.

Four of the five Vikings who advanced also claimed district championships. Kaleb Marion earned a 1-0 decision over previously unbeaten Kemonte Simons of Southfield. Nick Freeman and brother Ben both pinned their opponents at 130 and 135 pounds, respectively. Haydn Kinjorski won a decision at 160 pounds.

North Farmington advanced four wrestlers to the regional tournament led by Dilan Yaldo whose decision at 215 earned the Raiders their only district championship this year.

Seven different schools each advanced three wrestlers.

Nolan Klapec, representing Lakeland, won a 5-1 decision to claim the 112 district championship, and Kajuan Caldwell, representing Bloomfield Hills, won a 2-1 decision to win the district championship at 145.
