FENTON - In Bryan LaVearn’s world, you can’t have too many wrestling titles. So the Ortonville Brandon senior added another to his collection at Saturday’s Flint Metro League tournament at Fenton High School.

LaVearn beat Travis Wildfong of Flint Kearsley 4-3 in an intense 140-pound final to claim his fourth league championship.

“It was very challenging,” said LaVearn, who had a loss to Wildfong earlier in the season. “(I had) to prove that I’ve been working harder, that I’ve been dedicated.”

LaVearn, who notched his 150th career victory a few weeks ago, needs a deep run in the state tournament to close in on 200 victories as teams get ready for the post season.

The Blackhawks placed fifth with 118 points behind fourth-place Holly (118). Flint Kearsley won the tournament with 181 points and Linden was second with 156.

“They wrestled to their seeds,” said Brandon coach Erik Donders of his squad's effort.

Brandon’s Brendan Ladd won the 130-pound title with a 12-4 decision over Swartz Creek’s Chse Bates, and teammate Ethan Douglas placed third at 145.

Holly closed out the meet with two champions in the upper weights. Collin Dallwitz earned a 7-0 decision over Kearsley’s Marcus Moss, and teammate Jimmy Gray was a 6-2 winner over Jaylin Steedman of Linden to capture the heavyweight title.

The Bronchos wound up finishing third in the league combining the dual meet and tournament performances.
