ROCHESTER — On a bitter cold May night, Rochester Adams was able to control possession and outlast cross-town rival Rochester by a score of 2-0, keeping the Falcons from getting their first win of the season.

Adams controlled possession up until the final ten minutes of the second half, when Rochester’s offense perked up. The Falcons were able to get a couple nice scoring chances, including a penalty kick that Adams goalkeeper Olivia Argeros stopped to keep her team in the lead.

“Rochester played real hard. It was a physical game as it always is,” said Adams coach Aaron Donaghy. “It got ugly for a couple minutes there, but in the end I’m happy with the way we controlled the game.”

“The problem all year has been being the first to the ball and in the last ten minutes we definitely turned it up,” said Rochester coach Colby Cunningham. “Unfortunately, we didn’t finish but that’s part of the game. “

Adams first goal came at the 26:35 mark in the first half when Adams Sarah Limb got one to drop over the Falcons goalkeeper. Later in the game Adams Jenny Rosonke added another goal at 6:41 to give her team a two-goal cushion.

Rochester is still looking for their first win of the season, but Cunningham sees this game as a learning experience.

“Every game is a stepping stone for us right now. It’s frustrating. You’ve got to take the positive each game,” said Cunningham. “We have a good group of girls and they’re very young.”

With the loss Rochester drops to 0-8-3 on the season. They will face Davison on Saturday. Now 9-2-2 on the season, the Highlanders will also be in action on Saturday against Gull Lake.
