PONTIAC - This was one time where it was OK for members of the Pontiac Notre Dame Prep girls soccer team to count their chickens before they were hatched, so to speak.

Going into a Catholic League home game against Madison Heights Bishop Foley on Tuesday, Notre Dame Prep team members knew the star player, senior Taylor Timko, was one goal away from achieving 100 goals for her brilliant four-year career.

In honor of that pending achievement, a cardboard poster with signatures from teammates, photos and letters that read “Congrats!!!” was prepared for Timko.

All of that begs the question though.

What if Timko didn’t get that 100th goal on Tuesday?

“I don’t know,” Timko said. “I guess they were banking on it.”

A smart move by those teammates.

Timko not only got that 100th career goal, but she followed it up with goals 101 and 102, all in the first half, to propel the Fighting Irish to a 6-0 rout of Bishop Foley.

At halftime, with Notre Dame Prep up 3-0 thanks to those three Timko goals, the poster was presented to Timko.

“I tried to block it out a little bit,” Timko said of entering the game one goal away from No. 100. “It was nice to get it over with and then relax and play the game.”

Notre Dame Prep then added three goals in the second half to improve to 6-0 overall, 3-0 in league play on the season.

“We really didn’t play all that well in the first half,” Notre Dame Prep head coach Jim Stachura said. “But it’s nice to have (Timko) around to knock a couple in.”

Grace Cummings, Francesca Accurso and Olivia Mears scored in the second half for the Fighting Irish.
