Rochester Adams and Eisenhower play to scoreless draw WITH TOUT VIDEOS

UTICA – The Utica Eisenhower Eagles and Rochester Adams Highlanders girls soccer teams played to a 0-0 tie Saturday night.

The Eagles had the better of play in the first half, particularly offensively with Jillian Doss causing problems for the Highlander defense. But Adams goalkeeper Olivia Argeros turned in a fine game, smothering a breakaway among her six saves to deny the Eagles a goal. “I was very pleased. Having cold weather and it being our first game, I thought they played much better than I expected,” Eagles head coach Mehrdad Nekoogar said. “Overall, we had opportunities. Their goalie did a really excellent job.”

Like many early season games, the game picked up in the second half as the two teams settled into the game despite the frigid temperatures.

“It was much more of a soccer game in the second half,” Adams head coach Aaron Donaghy said.

Defensively, the Eagles turned in a solid performance led by Morgan Mooty, holding the Highlanders to just three shots on net.

But in the end, both coaches were happy to get a game in amid all the recent cancelations and learn a bit about their teams tonight. “It was a good game for us,” Nekoogar said. “Definitely, we need that game to get going.”

“They got better. That’s my objective. They were better at the end of the game than they were at the beginning of the game, so I’m very, very pleased,” Donaghy said.

Eisenhower (0-0-1) travels to L’Anse Creuse North on Monday. Rochester Adams (0-1-1) takes on Waterford Kettering on Monday before traveling to Royal Oak on Tuesday for an OAA Red showdown against the Ravens.
