Saturday's Prep Roundup: Southfield Christian slides past Oakland Christian in boys basketball

SOUTHFIELD — In boys basketball action, Bakari Evelyn scored 20 points, had six assists and five steals as Southfield Christian defeated Auburn Hills Oakland Christian 75-62 on Saturday afternoon. Marlo Brown had 19 points and seven rebounds and Kameron Garner scored 14 points for Southfield Christian (2-0, 1-0). Javarian Smith scored 19 points and D.J. Stevens scored 16 points for Oakland Christian (1-1, 0-1).

Taylor Truman 54, Orchard Lake St. Mary’s 49 — At West Bloomfield, Ted McCree scored 19 points and Jason Boswell and C.J. Wilson scored 10 points for St. Mary’s (0-1).

West Bloomfield 59, Waterford Kettering 51 --- At West Bloomfield, the host Lakers reeled off a 29-point second quarter to sprint ahead and never look back en route to their second victory in three days. Sophomore sensation Trishton Jackson pumped in a game-high 24 points to lead West Bloomfield, while fellow sophomore standout Anton Lucaj scored 14 for the winners. Kettering was paced by senior forward Kakaun Williams' 23 points.

Bloomfield Hills 69, Milan 60 ----- At Milan, the Blackhawks were unruly house guests in a showcase event, placing their entire "Big 3" in double figures in the scorebook in a downing of a state-ranked Milan squad. Senior guard Armand Cartwright posted a team-high 22 points, senior center Yante Maten 17 points and senior forward Khalil Gracey 16 points for undefeated Bloomfield Hills (3-0).



Girls Basketball

— Birmingham Detroit Country Day 57, Detroit Pershing 18 — At Birmingham, Destiny Pitts scored 12 points and Tylar Bennett scored nine points for Country Day (3-0).

— Clarkston 65, Chicago Bogan 62 (OT) — At the Best of Michigan Holiday Classic at Dearborn Heights Robichaud, Nautica Preston's half-court 3-pointer sent the game into overtime, tied at 57-57. Erika Davenport led Clarkston (4-0) with 34 points and 16 rebounds.



Hockey

— Troy Athens 2, Troy 1 — At Troy, Brad Merola and Jon Carandang scored for Athens and Jeff Merola made 44 saves for Athens (7-0-1). Nik Bester scored and John Hunter recorded an assist for Troy. Michael Fisher made 21 saves.

— KBH United 14, Grand Rapids 0 — At Flint, Shawn Larsen scored four goals and had three assists. Tyler Russell and A.J. Yuchasz had two goals and an assist for KBH United (3-3-0).

— Clarkston 6, Grand Haven 0 — At Detroit, Jacob LaPorte and Garrett Polish had a goal and an assist for Clarkston. Jack Viazanko made 25 saves (6-2-1).
