MILFORD - A young Oxford girls basketball team kept its undefeated streak alive with a 59-46 victory over Milford in basketball action Friday at Milford.

Junior swingwan Jessica Murphy led the Wildcats (5-0) with 27 points and 12 rebounds.

"(Jessica) is a good player she has a couple of school looking at her as a junior," Oxford head coach Steve Emert said. "We are pretty much a young team with three other juniors and some sophomores."

Murphy picked up Oxford from an early 16-12 deficit with seven consecutive points, five of them were from the free- throw line, to give Oxford a 19-16 lead. After Milford one point on a free throw, Murphy nail a long jump shot and scored again off a steal. Murphy completed a personal 11-1 run with a lay-up to give Oxford a 31-17 lead.

"Were are a very young team," Murphy said. "We just build off each others emotion. One player does well, the whole team plays well. We build off everyone trusting each other."

Milford (1-4) was ahead at the end of the first quarter with a 13-12 lead. Aubrey Long sank two 3-point field goals to give the Mavericks an early 8-3 lead. Madison Kurtz scored five consecutive points for Milford to take a 13-7 lead with 2:06 left in the first quarter.

"We were played well earlier in the game," Milford head coach Jennifer VanGoethem said. "In the second quarter we just didn't take care of the ball well."

Elise Gustafson led Mavericks with 21 points and 10 rebounds.

Skye Donaldson started the third quarter for Oxford with two treys to give the Lady Cats a 41-20 lead. Donaldson finished the game with 11 points. Murphy made a lay-up off an offensive rebound with five second left in the third quarter to extend the Oxford lead to 51-31.

Milford made the game interesting in the fourth quarter with a 15-8 run.

"We have a really scrappy team." VanGoethem said. "We have a good work ethic and spunkiness."
