BIRMINGHAM Down 16-3 with less than seven minutes left in the fourth quarter, Birmingham Seaholm scored two touchdowns on its way to an improbable 17-16 victory over Southfield.

It was the ultimate comeback for Birmingham Seaholm, but not without a couple miscues that went the Maples way.

With eight minutes left in the fourth quarter Southfield had the ball on their own 13-yard line. Quarterback Kanye Harris, faked a handoff and ran the ball up the middle untouched for what looked like a game winning touchdown.

What Harris didnt know is that the officials had already blown the whistle, assuming that the ball was handed off and tackled for a loss. The inadvertent whistle negated the presumable touchdown and only gave Southfield a 25-yard run.

The Bluejays were forced to punt the ball back to Seaholm.

Seaholm would not give up, as it would score a touchdown late in the fourth quarter, on a 21-yard touchdown catch from Brandon Altman to wide receiver Justin Bryant. The extra point made it a six-point 16-10 game with 3:44 left in the fourth quarter.

After Southfield recovered the onside kick, Seaholm and its stingy defense forced a punt with 1:37 left in the fourth quarter.

Altman lead the charge for the Maples on their own 18-yard line, completing his first pass to Austin Paritee for 22 yards. Altman followed it up with an eight yard run up the middle and a quick 4-yard strike to Paritee for a second first down.

A third first down was converted with a 14 yard run by Altman, and for the third time on the drive Altman threw a 30 touchdown catch to the back corner of the end zone as Paritee jumps over two defenders and comes down with both feet in play for the game winning touchdown with 42 seconds left.

We were down six points and coach (head coach of Birmingham Seaholm Jim DeWald) said we were going to pass the ball and I had to step up, said Paritee I didnt want to let down the seniors because I know we all wanted to play Brother Rice.

Seaholm would finish the game with an interception by free safety Dylan Kaanan.

Its a heart of a Maple, its what we have been preaching all year on a daily basis, said DeWald I challenge our team every year to put their heart and soul into it from January until now. They worked their tails off, they believed and that is what it takes to come up with the victory.

Altman was the leader and player of the game for the Maples, as he was able to throw two fourth quarter touchdown passes on the way to the victory for Seaholm.

Hes a baller and hes a play maker, said DeWald. Hes a tough kid that the other kids believe in and he will never quit and none of the kids quit.

Birmingham Seaholm (9-1) will take on legendary head coach Al Fracassa and Birmingham Brother Rice Warriors (10-0) next week for the district title.
