Panthers fall to Bay City John Glenn in regional title tilt WITH GALLERY

CLIO The Alma High School baseball team closed the season out Saturday in Division 2 regional action from Clio High School.

The Panthers (26-11) opened with a 10-8 win over rival Swan Valley in the semifinals but then were doubled up by Bay City John Glenn 4-2 in the regional title game.

Damon Anguiano (9-1) won the opener, where Alma raced out to a 9-0 lead in the fourth, as he allowed three earned runs on four hits while walking one and striking out six in four innings. Tristan Villalobos got the save for the Panthers in the opener.

Konner Vedrode had a huge game as he finished with two hits, including a double, while driving in four. He also scored three runs and swiped two bases.

Villalobos added in two hits, including a double, and had three RBIs while Hunter Frisbie had two hits and drove in one. Brec Alward singled, scored three runs and stole two bases while Troy Bastian had an RBI single. Anguiano also scored three times.

The Panthers fell behind 1-0 in the second inning of the title game before John Glenn took a 3-1 lead in the third. Bay City bumped its lead to 4-1 in the sixth before the Panthers scratched out a run in the seventh to close the scoring.

Brock Milan had an RBI single while Camden Sutherland singled and scored. Bastian also had a double. Villalobos (7-2) took the loss as he allowed four earned runs on nine hits while walking two and striking out one in six frames.
