Chippewa Hills no-hit by third-ranked Escanaba in D2 regional semifinals

CADILLAC - The Chippewa Hills High School softball team did not record a hit Saturday morning in a 2-0 loss to third-ranked Escanaba in a Division 2 regional semifinal hosted by Cadillac.

Kathleen Ross threw the first three innings of the no-hitter for the Eskymos, walking one batter. Freshman Gabi Salo threw the final four innings and struck out 10.

Sydney Wright drew the walk for the Warriors (15-20) the second batter of the game and advanced to third on a pair of wild pitches, but was stranded there.

Rachel Lobert was the only other Chippewa Hills player to get on base as she reached on an error with one out in the top of the fourth, yet the following two batters were struck out by Salo in relief to strand the runner.

Escanaba scored one run in each of the first two innings off Warriors starter Sadie Metcalf for its only two runs.

Metcalf threw six innings, allowing two earned runs on seven hits with seven strikeouts and two walks.

Escanaba went on to win the regional as it defeated Sparta 14-3 in the title game.
