Ithaca boys win TVC by point on final event, Foster sets school record as girls win third straight

On Wednesday afternoon at home the Ithaca High School boys track team claimed its second-straight Tri-Valley West Conference crown as it edged Ovid-Elsie by one point, winning 157 to 156.

The Jackets needed to finished in third place or better in the final event of the day - the 1,600 relay - and they did exactly that as the team of Zach Bartnik, Jason Derry, Judson Gallagher and Ethan Schauer were third with a time of 3:40.27.

The Jackets won four events on the boys side as Jacob Allen won the 300 hurdles (42.87) and long jump (19-3.5). Alex VanDeWeghe also won the discus (147-2) and shot put (55-9).

St. Louis finished third with 89 points with star runner Evan Goodell winning the 800 (2:05.77), 1,600 (4:29.97) and 3,200 (9:59.5).

On the girls side the Jackets won a third-straight TVC West title as they won eight events and tallied 141.5 points. St. Louis was second with 93.

Emily Foster had a day for the Jackets as she set the school record in the 300 hurdles. She won the event in 46.68, besting her previous standard of 46.85.


She also won the 100 hurdles (17.18) while Courtney Allen won the 800 (2:31.12) and 1,600 (5:49.63).

Taryn Ostrander also won the shot put (34-9) while the Jackets raced to victory in the 800, 1,600 and 3,200 relays.

Jayden Robinson also won the pole vault (7-0) for the Sharks.
