Central Michigan University junior Megan O’Neil broke the school record in the mile Friday at the Grand Valley State Big Meet held at the Lakers’ Kelly Family Sports Center.

O’Neil, a Chippewa Hills High School graduate who helped the Warriors win the Division 2 MHSAA state crown in 2014, finished with a time of 4:49.13 en route to a sixth-place finish.

She broke the previous school record of 4:50.5 set by Raeanne Lohner in 2010.

“She’s been running pretty well,” CMU Director of Track & Field Mark Guthrie said in a prep release. “At Notre Dame (last week) we thought we were going to have a shot at it. Tonight she looked great. Good turnover, pretty relaxed.”
