The Michigan High School Football Coaches Association recently released its academic All-State teams for the 2016 season and mid-Michigan was well represented.

Breckenridge's Korbin Colthorp made the Individual Academic All-State second team as did Shepherd's Kyle Galgoci and Farwell's Alex Dailey.

All carry 4.0 GPAs or close to it.

Alma's CJ Thompson made the academic All-State honorable mention list while four teams reeled in Academic All-State team honors.

In Division 4 Alma finished with the 15th-highest GPA of 3.599 while Clare was 16th in D56 at 3.620.

In Division 5 Ithaca posted the eighth-best GPA at 3.750 while St. Louis was 10th at 3.643.

Breckenridge coach Kris Robinson was also named Region 4 'Coach of the Year' after leading the Huskies to their first conference title since 1946 and their first playoff appearance since the early 1990s. His Huskies were also the first team in the playoff era to go from 0-9 to 9-0.

Also it was announced that Mt. Pleasant football coach Jason McIntyre will be coaching the West team in the annual East/West All-Star football game this June.

More to come on that later.
