Alma Schools Athletic Hall of Fame awards two $1,000 scholarships

The Alma Schools Athletic Hall of Fame awarded two $1,000 scholarships to graduating seniors at its annual Honors Night Ceremonies last week.

One senior female student-athlete and one male senior student-athlete are awarded these scholarships each year through the Gratiot County Community Foundation.

The female recipient was Kaleigh Kovac, who participated in swimming for four years and softball as a senior.

She finished with a 3.96 GPA and will be attending Saginaw Valley State University this fall where she plans on studying in the medical field.

The male recipient was senior Matt Young. Young participated in football, basketball and baseball throughout his high school career and finished with a 3.97 GPA.

He will be attending Hillsdale College this fall and plans on studying chemistry and playing baseball.

These scholarships are open to any male or female student-athlete who participates in varsity sports during their junior or senior years.
