Myers strikes out 19 as Vestaburg splits

The Vestaburg baseball team closed out the Mid-State Activities Conference portion of its schedule Saturday as it split with Carson City, winning 2-1 in game one before falling 10-1 in game two.

Austin Myers (9-2) struck out 19, one shy of the school record, while allowing one run on two hits and walking six in seven innings. Alex Steed had two singles while Mitch Sellers, Tyler McGarvey, Keigan Ryckman and Trent Mortensen each had singles.

A three-error second frame allowed the Eagles to claim a big lead in game two and they held on.

Austin Blanks (3-2) took the loss for the Wolverines (15-6-1, 9-1 MSAC) as he struck out five and walked two while allowing three hits in six frames.

Collin Dove also had a hit.

Irish split at Whitehall Invitational

WHITEHALL The Sacred Heart Academy baseball team picked up a 9-2 win over Fremont Saturday at the Whitehall Invitational before falling to the hosts 10-0 in five innings in game two.

Tristen Fox (2-1) threw 5 2/3 innings in the opener as he allowed two earned runs on three hits with four walks. He also doubled, scored a run and drove one in.

Matt Kornexl had four hits including a double with two runs and an RBI. Connor Puhlman added two hits, a run and two RBIs.

Sacred Heart (10-15) did not have a hit in game two.



SAGINAW The Breckenridge baseball team completed a two-game sweep of Michigan Lutheran Seminary Saturday.

The Huskies (17-6-1) opened with a 7-4 victory and closed out with a 9-8 win in 10 innings. Chase Siler struck out four and allowed three earned runs on five hits over seven innings in the opener. Mitch Miller tallied two singles, while Wade SanMiguel contributed a double and a solo home run.

In the finale, Grayson Garcia struck out five and surrendered four earned runs on two hits over the final four innings of play to earn the win. SanMiguel led the way with two singles and a home run, while Siler tallied singles. Alex Compeau also tallied three singles including the game winner.

Farwell drops a pair at Whittemore-Prescott Invite

BURLEIGH The Farwell High School baseball team lost a pair of close games at the Whittemore-Prescott Invite Saturday as it fell 5-4 to the hosts and 4-3 to Hillman.

Noah Wilson led the Eagles in the opener as he went 3-for-3 with a double, a triple, two runs and an RBI while also drawing a walk. Austin Hickey also went 3-for-3 with three RBIs.

Hickey took the loss on the mound as he allowed five runs (four earned) on 12 hits with four strikeouts and two walks over six innings.

Austin Maxey was 2-for-4 with an RBI in game two. Dylan Brown, Jordan Renner and Walter Mosby scored one run apiece. Brown also drove in a run.

Wilson threw all seven innings and gave up four runs (two earned) on five hits with eight strikeouts and five walks.
