PREP GIRLS BASKETBALL: Sacred Heart edges Montabella in overtime

The Sacred Heart Academy girls basketball team pulled out a thrilling 45-44 overtime victory at Montabella on Friday evening.

Despite leading 23-8 at halftime, the Irish (8-3, 4-0 MSAC) were outscored 32-17 in the second half as the game was sent into overtime tied at 40-40.

Montabella had an opportunity to secure the win with three seconds remaining in overtime, but Taylor Smith missed a pair of free throws at the charity stripe.

Sara Hansen led SHA with points, while Averi Gamble tallied 12 and Riley Terwilliger six.

Sarah Miller led the Mustangs (6-4, 3-2 MSAC) with 17 points, and eight rebounds, while Smith tallied 17 points six boards and three steals.

Carson City-Crystal 48, Coleman 14

The Carson City-Crystal defeated Coleman in girls basketball action Friday night, 48-14.

For the Eagles (8-1, 4-1), Mikayla Duflo and Tori Christensen each scored nine.

Fulton 46, Dansville 31

The Fulton High School girls basketball team cruised past visiting Dansville on Friday for a 46-31 Central Michigan Athletic Conference victory.

The Pirates (6-4, 3-4 CMAC) opened the second half on a 12-0 run to take a 17-point lead to earn the win.

Monica Tabor led Fulton with nine points, while Connor Proctor collected nine points, four rebounds, four steals and four assists. Amanda Madden also added in eight points.

Midland Bullock Creek 65, Alma 55

The Alma High School girls basketball team lost at home to Bullock Creek High School on Friday by a final score of 68-55.

The Panthers (4-5, 2-3 TVC Central) were led by Maddy Seeley, who finished with 33 points, while Kenzie Seeley chipped in with 12 points. Kendall Vedrode also had eight points for Alma.

Freeland 61, Shepherd 33

FREELAND The Shepherd High School girls basketball team traveled to Freeland for a TVC central matchup on Friday, with Freeland winning 61-33.

For the Bluejays (4-7, 2-5), Hanah Yesmunt lead the attack with 17 points and six assists to go along with seven steals defensively.

Abby Moeggenberg also hit double digits for Shepherd, recording 10 points in the loss.

Midland Dow 57, Mt. Pleasant 38

The Mt. Pleasant High School girls basketball team fell to visiting Midland Down on Friday by a 57-38 final in Saginaw Valley League action.

The Chargers took a 20-4 lead after the first quarter and held on from there.

Whitnee Foote led the Oilers with 14 points and six rebounds, while Hannah Murch chipped in 10 points and three boards.
