PREP BOYS BASKETBALL: Oilers outlast Chargers for SVL win

The Mt. Pleasant High School boys basketball team picked up a 56-52 road win at Midland Dow to sweep the season series with the Chargers.

The Oilers (6-2, 4-1 SVL) trailed 15-12 after the opening quarter, but grabbed a 26-24 lead at halftime. Mt. Pleasant would use a 14-9 run in the third quarter to take a 40-33 lead into the fourth.

Anton Cotton led Mt. Pleasant with 16 points, while Jaleel Hogan and T.J. Johnson each chipped in with 11.



Clare 71, Roscommon 56

The Clare High School boys basketball team upended visiting Roscommon 71-56 on Friday evening in Jack Pine Conference play.

The Pioneers (5-3, 3-2 JPC) carried a 39-20 lead at halftime and held on from there.

Colton Punches paced Clare with 14 points, seven assists and five steals, while Mason Packard chipped in 12 points and Scott Smith 10 points and seven rebounds.



Alma 73, Bullock Creek 49

Alma High School boys basketball cruised to a 73-49 win over Midland Bullock Creek on Friday.

The Panthers (4-4, 3-2 TVC Central) were led by Justin Doyle with 19 points and four steals.

Curtis Doyle also had 12 points and eight rebounds, while Dylan Carl had 11 points, 10 rebounds and two blocks.



Beal City 70, Manton 27

The Beal City boys basketball squad defeated Manton on Friday, 70-27, in Highland Conference action.

Ryan Tillman had 17 points for the Aggies (5-2, 4-0), also grabbing seven boards, one assist and three steals to round out the night.

Ty Rollin was Beal City’s next leading scorer with 13 and three rebounds, while Zach Natzel contributed 11 points, two rebounds and two assists.

Alex Schafer also scored 10 points to go along with four rebounds, four steals and two assists.



Shepherd 62, Freeland 48

FREELAND - The Shepherd High School boys basketball team was victorious Friday night, as it beat Freeland by a final score of 62-48.

After building a solid nine-point lead going into the halftime break, Shepherd (3-5, 3-2 TVC Central) came out on fire in the third quarter as they outscored Freeland by 15 points to put the game out of reach.

Leading the way for the Bluejays were Toren Sanchez and Nathan Branigan, who each finished with 17 points. Jesse Holmes also played well, finishing with 11 points.



Saginaw Valley Lutheran 70, St. Louis 55

The St. Louis High School boys basketball team fell to visiting Saginaw Valley Lutheran on Friday by a count of 70-55.

Valley Lutheran built a 20-9 lead after the opening quarter and led 35-26 at the break.

Parker Morris led the Sharks with 15 points, while Nole Bailey added in nine.



Carrollton 85, Breckenridge 40

The Breckenridge High School boys basketball team fell 85-40 to visiting Carrollton on Friday night.

Keegan Giles led the Huskies (4-6) with 14 points.



Hesperia 79, Chippewa Hills 61

HESPERIA – The Chippewa Hills High School fell at Hesperia by a final of 79-61 Friday.

The Warriors (1-6) were led by Austin Issette with 21 points.



Sanford-Meridian 57, Farwell 37

SANFORD - The Farwell boys basketball team fell on the road at Sanford-Meridian, 57-37, Friday.

The Eagles (4-3, 3-2) were led by Curtis Robinson with 10 points, while Trent Markhofer had seven points, four rebounds and one block.
