PREP BASKETBALL ROUND-UP: Shepherd girls and boys top Chesaning

CHESANING - The Shepherd girls basketball team picked up a conference win Wednesday as it beat host Chesaning 36-33.

The Bluejays (4-6, 2-4) took an 18-8 lead into the half and had to hold on as Chesaning made a game of it in the second half.

Abbie Moeggenberg had 16 points for the Bluejays to lead the way while Shelby Kyser added in eight points.



Carson City 44, Tri-County 25

Carson City’s girls team rolled to a 44-25 win over Howard City Tri-County Wednesday and is now 7-1 on the season.

The Eagles took an 18-13 lead at half and extended it to 32-21 by the end of three quarters.

Mackenzie Geister had 13 points with Tori Christiansen adding in 11 and Mikayla Duflo 10.



Chippewa Hills 58, Big Rapids 44

The Chippewa Hills High School girls basketball team earned a 58-44 win Wednesday night at home over Big Rapids in Central State Activities Association action.

Chippewa Hills (6-2, 5-2) led by a slim 39-38 margin heading into the fourth quarter and then outscored the opposition 19-6 over the final eight minutes.

Hannah Guy tallied 26 points to lead the Warriors, while Kendall Boone added 13 points. Callee Stirn scored 11.



Montabella 53, Vestaburg 18

The Montabella High School girls basketball team used a huge first half Wednesday night to record a 53-18 win over Vestaburg.

Montabella led 16-2 after one quarter, then did not give up any points in the second quarter as it took a 29-2 lead into halftime on the way to the victory.

Taylor Smith had a stellar night for the Mustangs (6-3, 3-1 MSAC) as she poured in 28 points including an 8-of-11 showing from 3-point range, while also dishing out 10 assists. Sarah Miller added 12 points.

Ashley Beach scored nine points to lead Vestaburg.



Bath 46, Fulton 38

The Fulton High School girls basketball team lost at home Wednesday night to Bath by a final of 46-38.

Fulton (5-4, 2-4 CMAC) dominated the first half to take a 29-19 lead into halftime, but were unable to sustain it and were outscored 11-5 in the third and 16-4 in the fourth.

Connor Proctor led the Pirates with 16 points, while Amanda Madden and Hannah Baker each scored seven. Gabi Seida added five points and eight rebounds.

Shepherd 44, Chesaning 27

CHESANING – Shepherd’s boys basketball team notched a conference win Wednesday night as it beat host Chesaning 44-27 on the road.

The Bluejays (2-5, 2-3) took a 20-10 lead into the break and cruised to the win from there.

Jesse Holmes had 14 points for Shepherd with Andrew Sura adding in nine and Mason Branigan six.
