EAST LANSING -- Buoyed by senior Emily Gunning’s career-best 90, Mt. Pleasant High’s girls golf team finished 12th of 15 teams here Saturday at Forest Akers-East in the Division 2 state finals.

The Oilers fired a four-person score of 385, 31 strokes better than their opening mark of 416.

Birmingham Seaholm won with a 663 followed by Okemos at 664 and Midland Dow at 695.

“That’s more like we have played all season,” said Mt. Pleasant coach Fred Stabley, Jr. “We may have had a little stage fright on Friday. The young ladies calmed down and played much better Saturday.

“They have worked so hard for four years that it’s nice to finish on a more positive note.”

Senior Lauren Lyon chipped in with a 92 while junior Katie Flanagan had 100 and senior Sam Berryhill 103.

In Division 4 action at Bedford Valley in Battle Creek Farwell’s Bria Colosky and Sammie Baldwin also showed well as both earned top-10 medalist honors in the two-day event.

Colosky and Baldwin tied for 10th in the D3 individual standings by carding 172s.

Baldwin opened with a 90 on Friday and shot and 82 Saturday while Colosky shot an 84 and an 88.

Lansing Catholic’s Jacqueline Setas won the D4 title with a 150 (77-73) while Grosse Ile won the team title with a 716, two shots better than Grand Rapids NorthPointe Christian.
