PREP ROUNDS: Third-ranked Beal City volleyball sweeps McBain NMC
The Beal City High School volleyball team, ranked third in Class C, improved to 32-1 overall and 4-0 in the Highland Conference Tuesday with a 25-13, 25-14, 25-20 win over McBain Northern Michigan Christian.
Nicole Gross paced the Aggies with 15 kills and seven digs, while Addie Schumacher had 13 kills and 24 digs. Jordan Schneider tallied eight kills and three blocks. Melanie Schafer contributed 23 digs and five kills. Anna Reihl had 25 digs, while Jenna Theisen added 30 assists.
Hornets swept by Mustangs
The Harrison High School volleyball team was swept by visiting Sanford-Meridian Monday evening by scores of 10-25, 19-25 and 12-25.
Haley Sulla led the Hornets with five kills, two aces and three digs, while Katelyn Sherrick chipped in with two aces.
Aggie girls win at Saranac
SARANAC — The Beal City High School girls cross country team won the Saranac Color Run Invitational Tuesday, finishing with 27 points. Belding was second with 46.
Hannah Steffke won the race for the Aggies (19:52), while Emily Steffke placed third (20:28) and Hannah Neyer was fourth (21:03). Ariel Salter took eighth (21:49.5) and Brenda Faber was 11th (21:58.9).
On the boys side, Beal City was third with 86 points. Fowler won the meet (67) and Saranac took second (75).
Ethan Schafer finished seventh (17:26.9) and Nick Pung was eight (17:36.5). David Reihl ran to 18th (18:38), Brendan Carrick was 26th (19:13), and James Kolb came in 27th (19:15).
Lakeview 5, Ithaca 4
LAKEVIEW — The Ithaca High School boys soccer team lost at Lakeview Tuesday evening by a count of 5-4.
Koby Lee led the Yellowjackets with two goals, while Zach Drowley added a goal and an assist. Mario Cuapio also scored a goal. Alex Vanderploeg and Mike Meyer each notched an assist.
Jacob Pierce made five saves.
Mt. Pleasant 3, Saginaw Nouvel 0
SAGINAW - Mt. Pleasant closed the regular season out with a 3-0 win over Saginaw Nouvel Tuesday to close the docket out at 10-7-3.
Andrew Brookens had two goals and an assist with Nick Prin notching a goal and an assist. Zac Brown also had six saves in goal.
Mt. Pleasant 5, St. Johns 3
The Mt. Pleasant High School boys tennis team defeated visiting St. Johns Tuesday by a final of 5-3.
No. 1 singles player Michael Roehmer won his match (6-2, 6-1) for the Oilers (7-4) as did No. 2 player Landon Voigth (6-1, 6-1).
In doubles action, No. 1 duo Eddie Trudeau/Dan Klosowski prevailed (6-4, 6-2) along with No. 2 team Hayden Carey/Bryce Bolles (6-3, 6-2) and No. 3 tandem Ryan LaPoe/Alex Ojeda (6-0, 6-1).
