DAKOTA 10, LAKEVIEW 0 >> Those Z’s you heard on the baseball field at Warren-Mott certainly did not indicate anyone was going to sleep. In fact, Zac Zabonic’s bat was very much awake as he swatted four hits and knocked in three runs for the Cougars (3-0).

Frank Maloney’s two hits included a home run. Pitcher Brendan Schmitz went four innings for the win. He allowed three hits and fanned four. Reliever Alex Pagsic struck out four in two innings.

Steven Selleck went 2-for-2 for the Huskies.

Dakota moves on to Saturday’s playoff round in the Spring Break Tournament.

CHIPPEWA VALLEY 10, LAKE SHORE 1 >> Junior Brendan Murphy hit a two-run home run to highlight a three-run sixth inning that helped Chippewa Valley win the Spring Break Tournament game. Murphy finished with two hits and three RBI. Dan Quinn had two doubles and an RBI, Jeff Mizwa three hits and two RBI and Tyler Kulka two hits for the Big Reds. Troy Chinn was the winning pitcher.

COUSINO 10, ARMADA 0 (six innings) >> Another Patriotic act landed Cousino into the Spring Break Tournament playoffs on Saturday.

Those Saturday games are tentatively scheduled to be played at Kyte Monroe in St. Clair Shores.

The Cousino Patriots moved to 3-0 with this win. Winning pitcher Zach Schulte went three innings, striking out three and allowing just two hits. Ryan Kenny threw two innings of hitless ball, striking out one. Ryan Hallock threw the final stanza.

The Patriots blasted 12 hits including a homer and five doubles. Launching that solo home run was Nick Palmer in the fourth inning. P.J. Zocharski laced two doubles. Chris Stewart doubled and knocked in three runs. Adam Freiman had a double and an RBI, while Matt Rice also doubled.

L’ANSE CREUSE 15, DETROIT WESTERN 1 (six innings) >> Coach Bob Walmsley’s players lassoed some Cowboys Thursday.

L’Anse Creuse will take a 3-0 tournament record into Saturday’s playoff round after dispatching the host Cowboys in a game played at Clark Park in Detroit.

Senior pitcher Joe Marola threw all six innings, striking out six and allowing just three hits. Marola also smacked a home run, one of three the Lancers clouted. Also getting round-trippers were Andrew Courtemanche and Brendan Craven. Courtemanche knocked in two runs, while Craven had two RBI, two steals and scored twice. Adam Redoute had two hits, three RBI; while Aaron Gonzalez had two hits and knocked in three runs.

L’ANSE CREUSE 4, UNIVERSITY LIGGETT 3 >> Starting pitcher Brendan Konal went four innings, struck out four and scattered three hits for the Lancers.

Aaron Gonzalez ripped two hits and knocked in two runs for L’Anse Creuse.

On Friday, L’Anse Creuse plays Richmond at noon and Lake Shore at 3 p.m. The Lancers host both of those games.

LAKEVIEW 6, AVONDALE 3 >> Nick Dozek was the winning pitcher and Ben Shaw got the save, while John Rozanski went five innings, allowing three runs, eight hits and seven Ks.

Shaw went 3-for-4 with one run and one RBI, Mitchell Cunha went 3-for-3 with one run and Steven Selleck went 2-for-3 with one run.


PARKWAY CHRISTIAN 6, FRANKLIN ROAD CHRISTIAN 3 >> Riley McManus was the winning pitcher for the Eagles, going five innings and giving up three hits and two runs while striking out six. On offense, he went 2-for-4 with a double and two runs scored.

Ryan Stewart went 3-for-4 with a triple, a homerun, two RBI and two runs scored and Nick Halaas went 2-for-3 with one RBI and one run scored.

Parkway Christian (5-1, 2-0) takes on Lincoln on Friday.


FITZGERALD 16, CLINTONDALE 7 >> Senior Lucas Ancona got the win on the mound, going four innings, striking out five and knocking in two RBI on offense.

Sophomore Macarlis Pender had a three-inning save, striking out five batters and scoring three runs – and one RBI – on offense.

Senior Cody Haberek had two hits and two RBI and Robert Gregersen had one double and two runs.

Fitzgerald (3-0) takes on Macomb Christian in a double-header on Saturday.
