Marco DiStefano scored in the first overtime Saturday to lift Dakota to a 1-0 victory over Port Huron Northern in the championship game of the Division 1 district soccer tournament at L'Anse Creuse North on Saturday night.

Eddie Becker was the winning keeper as the Cougars improved to 17-1-2 and advanced to play Utica in a regional semifinal match at Grosse Pointe North on Tuesday.

"Our defense played fantastic," Dakota coach Stefano Moraccini said after the Cougars extended their school record for victories in a season.

Alex Bozinovski, Andrew Love, Drew Jacobs and Scott Brown led the Cougars' defense, Moraccini said.

It was the third meeting of the season between Dakota and Port Huron Northern.

Dakota won one match and the teams tied the other in regular-season play.
