If this was a game of Clue, there would be no question: The Butler did it.

Not with a candlestick, but with his feet. Senior Devin Butler, who plays both forward and midfielder, led the Anchor Bay Tars to a 6-2 victory over L’Anse Creuse North in a MAC crossover soccer match Friday. Butler scored twice and added an assist.

“He played a great game,” said coach Nate Williams.

Also scoring were Mikele Melone (two assists), Alec Wiater (one assist), Justin Rozanski and Ian Billock.

The offensive effort was matched by the defensive work of the Tars’ back line and goalie Matt Dennis, who made five saves.

The defenders were Shane Maurer, Shane Foster, Rozanski, and Juan Patino.

“I’m very proud of my team,” said Williams. “It was a great effort today.”

Anchor Bay (2-4) plays at Eisenhower Monday.


LAKEVIEW 0, GROSSE POINTE SOUTH 0: Simon says it was a good game.

“It was a good, hard-fought game,” said Simon Miners, the Lakeview coach.

He praised the play of his goalie Zach Raymond, who turned away 10 shots; and defender Eric Cass.

The Huskies are 1-1-1, 3-3-1.


STEVENSON 5, GROSSE POINTE NORTH 1: Trevor Hornibrook, Maciek Laskowski and Jason Kudor all scored, while Josh Imms kicked in two goals, to lead the Titans.

Neil Martoorana, Mike Samson, Henry Roseni and Imms also had assists. Shane Stefani made five saves in goal.

Stevenson (6-0) takes on Ford Monday.

CHIPPEWA VALLEY 5, ROSEVILLE 0: Grant Owen had two goals and Dane Haggarty, Jake Foley and Chris Johnson also scored to lead the Big Reds. Chippewa Valley (4-1-1) takes on Utica Monday.

MARYSVILLE 0, YALE 0: Marysville’s goalkeeper Brandon Roeske made 11 saves to earn his seventh consecutive shutout. Marysville is 5-0-2.

L’ANSE CREUSE 5, NEW HAVEN 0: A tip of the cap to Jaret LaBarge, who scored a hat trick. Those three goals gave him eight for the season. Also scoring were Dakota Richardson and Patrick Carmody.

Carmody also had an assist, as did Zuhair Issa and Semezdin Bilalic.

Goalie Armin Gradascevic got the assist for L’Anse Creuse (4-3), which welcomes Warren-Mott Monday.


PARKWAY CHRISTIAN 4, HURON VALLEY LUTHERAN 1: Ben Turner scored three goals and Noah Ramsby had a goal and two assists to lead Parkway Christian to the victory. Nathan Ersig and John Leonard had an assist each as the Eagles improved to 2-1-0 in the conference and 2-3-0 overall. Brandon Barrows played a solid game for the defense, Parkway Christian coach Armand LeComte said. Parkway Christian plays Harper Woods at home on Monday.


DAKOTA 2, LUTHERAN NORTH 0: A pair of second-half goals propelled the Cougars to victory Friday.

Still, Lutheran North coach Brian Horvath was impressed with his team’s play before intermission.

“Overall, our effort was impressive in the first half,” said Horvath. “I think we controlled play, but Dakota came out more inspired in the second half.”

Lutheran North (4-3-2) welcomes Cranbrook Tuesday.
