ROUNDUP: Grosse Pointe South pounds Stevenson, 13-3


GROSSE POINTE SOUTH 13, STEVENSON 3: Plop.Plop. Fizz. Fizz. Oh what a relief a nine-run first inning is. Just ask GPS coach Dan Griesbaum, whose team has suffered eight one-run losses already this season.

Jacob Brauer ripped a two-run homer in the first to stake the Blue Devils to a 4-0 advantage. They went on to score five more runs in the opening stanza.

Michael Lanzon went 4-for-5 with an RBI. Getting two hits each were Joe Naporano, Giovanni Lutfy and Nate Budziak. Winning pitcher Cam Shook went the distance and scattered six hits. He also struck out two.

Stevenson’s Mario Camilletti hit a three-run homer in the third inning.

The Blue Devils (5-6, 11-13) host Stevenson Thursday.

EISENHOWER 3, ANCHOR BAY 1: Kameron Marnon’s two-out, two-run bases loaded single in the fourth inning erased a 1-0 deficit and put the Eagles (8-3, 17-4) up for good.

Joe Zontini had three hits and scored two runs. Jake Miller went 2-for-3 and knocked in a run.

Winning pitcher John Fantauzzo went six innings, struck out nine and allowed just three hits.

Rightfielder Kyle Bischoff gunned down an Anchor Bay runner attempting to score to end the fifth inning.

The two teams meet at Ike Thursday.

DAKOTA 4, ANCHOR BAY 1: Brendan Miesch was 2-for-3 with a homer and scored two runs for the Cougars. Jake Lico drove in a run on two hits and Matt Boutin went 6 2/3 innings, giving up four hits and fanning four, for the win.

The Big Reds’ Jacob Rybicki had a hit and scored a run.


FORD 7, L’ANSE CREUSE 5: Senior righthander Scott Lewis took a no-hitter into the fourth inning on his way to the win. He wound up pitching 5 2/3rds innings and struck out four. Trevor Sarhan earned the save.

Matt Domke finished with two hits and three RBI. Spencer Carson had two hits and scored twice. Ian Cleary and Chance Kirkwood both had a hit and scored a run.

L’Anse Creuse pinch hitter Troy Hedges ripped a home run in the sixth inning.

Ford plays at L’Anse Creuse Thursday.

ROMEO 6, COUSINO 5: Romeo pinch runner Nathan Rinke stole third and scored on a throwing error to break a 5-5 tie with two out in the bottom of the seventh. Earlier in the frame, Eddie Dopkowski’s sacrifice fly scored Jack Durham, who had singled, to tie the score. Gavin Ganfield followed Dopkowski’s RBI with a walk and moved to second on a hit batter, and then Rinke ran for him. Zach Palmer had two RBI and Durham hit a solo home run. Romeo is 6-4 in the division.

L’ANSE CREUSE NORTH 4, GROSSE POINTE NORTH 3 (8 INNINGS): Chazz Knoche’s double drove home Anthony Simons to break a 3-3 tie in the bottom of the eighth. Simons had gotten on base with a bunt single, and he took second on a sacrifice bunt by Brendan Peck. The Crusaders, held to one hit in the first six innings, scored three times in the seventh. Zack Roa’s ground ball hit second base and ricocheted into right field as one run scored, and Brandon Williams followed with a two-run double. Knoche singled to start the rally. Peck pitched a scoreless top of the eighth for the victory after Dane Martin went the first seven innings.


PORT HURON 10, UTICA 0: Matt Fitzpatrick and Elric Molina each had a hit for the Chieftains (4-7, 7-17).


FRASER 4, MARINE CITY 3: Noah Walker’s hit in the fifth inning brought in the winning run for the Ramblers (10-1, 14-3.)

Paul Bauer’s double scored the first run for Fraser. Dom Mielke went 2-for-3.

Pitcher Brendan Gordley went the first five and two-thirds innings for the win. Justin Sherman got the save.

Fraser travels to Marine City Thursday.

WARREN WOODS-TOWER 9, LAKE SHORE 6: David Asmar (double) was 3-for-3 with two walks and drove in four to lead the Titans (6-4, 8-9). Alec Dutz (walk) and Ryan Feuquay (homer, walk, two RBI) each added two hits. Keegan Sikorski struck out seven for the win and Dayton Regier earned the save.


ROSEVILE 9, CLAWSON 0: Winning pitcher Dylan Rochon threw a two-hitter and struck out seven as the Panthers stayed undefeated in MAC Silver play (8-0, 10-2.)

Kyle Evans swatted two hits and knocked in two runs. Tyler Fessenden had two hits and an RBI, while Zane Alexander rapped two hits.

The Panthers travel to Clawson Thursday.

SOUTH LAKE 11, CENTER LINE 1: Justin Baatz tossed a two-hitter, striking out eight, and was 4-for-4 with a triple, double and two RBI for the Cavaliers (2-9, 3-11). Devin Schoenherr had three hits and Theo Pozio added a two-run single.


CLINTONDALE 18, EAST DETROIT 4: Winning pitcher Jacob Stewart proved to be a winner at the plate, too. He struck out three in three innings, and also had three hits himself.

Both Zach Simpson and Kyle Zabel also had three hits.

Clintondale (5-5, 6-8) welcomes East Detroit Thursday.


ARMADA 4-2, ALGONAC 0-1: It took two days and 18 innings to finish, but the Tigers (9-1, 15-6) earned the sweep.

In game one, Braden Korchmar allowed one hit and struck out three. Kade Cohoon (three steals, RBI), Jared Couch (RBI) and Mitch Ruczynski each had two hits.

In game two, which went 11 innings, Ruczynski drove in Adam Job with the winning run with two outs. Ruczynski and Job, who struck out six and gave up two hits over eight innings, had two hits apiece. Anthony Cefali got the win, going three innings, giving up one hit and fanning three.
