Nadolny, Mills combine to hit five dingers

Back in the day Major League Baseball’s Oakland Athletics had their ‘Bash Brothers’.

L’Anse Creuse’s softball has its ‘Dynamic Duo’.

Brooke Nadolny cranked out three homers and Sammi Mills blasted out two to help lead the Lancers over L’Anse Creuse North, 9-7, in a MAC crossover game on Wednesday.

“We’re the ‘Dynamic Duo,’” Mills said immediately when asked if the pair had a nickname picked out.

“How about ‘Bash Sisters,’ Lancer coach Lisa Downey suggested.

“I like ‘Dynamic Duo,’ Nadolny said.

The ‘Dynamic Duo’ have went yard a combined seven times over the last two games.

“I’ve never had two players like this at this level,” Downey said. “And they’re two of the hardest workers I’ve ever had.

“The hardest thing for them is to realize they’re not going to hit a home run every time they’re up there,” Downey added.

Nadolny, a sophomore, has a school record 11 dingers on the season.

“I feel like every time I make contact it’s going to take off,” Nadolny said. “I’m just waiting and not as anxious.”

Mills, who has verbally committed to Central Michigan, had five homers on the season.

“We’re getting to feel like one of us has to hit one every time we’re up,” said Mills, a junior.

Mills also had a pair of doubles to go along with her two homers to drive in four runs, while all three of Nadolny’s home runs were solo shots.

In a 15-3 win on Monday, Nadolny was 4-for-4 with a pair of homers, two doubles and seven RBI. Mills cranked out two home runs and drove in five.

“They’re two great ball players, there is no doubt about it,” LCN coach Mark Mignot said. “You can’t throw the ball down the middle against them or it’s going to go out in a hurry.”

Nadolny also got the win, striking out 10.

Cynthia Galvin added two hits and Ava Ferrarelli drove in a run for the Lancers (12-3), who are in first place in the MAC Blue.

LCN (14-10) also hit two homers, one each from Piper Roth (double, three RBI) and Emily Bliss (double, two RBI). Liz Paver also had two hits.

The Crusaders, who are in first place in the MAC White, scored three of their runs in the seventh inning.

“That’s been a big difference this year compared to years in the past, if we would have gotten down early we would have just folded up the tents,” Mignot said. “Now they’re fighting to the last out.”
