The Fitzgerald Spartans kept on rolling Saturday afternoon, earning a 30-26 MAC crossover football win at Warren Woods-Tower and spoiling homecoming for the Titans.

Running back Najon Moore, wide receiver Bryan Gordon and quarterback Chris Eddy led to Spartans to their first 5-0 start since 2008 with fabulous performances on the road against the Titans (2-3).

“The kids battled,” said Fitzgerald coach Gary Skop. “Tower is a great ball club and we both came to play today.”

Moore had 29 carries for 140 yards and scored a touchdown while Gordon caught seven passes for a total of 156 yards.

Gordon caught a 38-yard touchdown pass with 9:56 to go in regulation to give the Spartans a 30-20 cushion.

Eddy was terrific in the air and on the ground. He completed 12 passes for 164 yards, including the 38-yard strike to Gordon, and also collected 62 rushing yards and two touchdowns.

“Chris was a little rusty in the first half but in the second half he came to play,” said Skop. “The senior in him really came out.”

Dayvon Garner and Donny Robinson each had 10 tackles for the Spartans, while Gio Kizer and Martez Nelson each had a fumble recovery.

Warren Woods-Tower coach Al Gulick was pleased with his team’s performance against a red-hot Fitzgerald squad, but he mentioned that offensive mistakes may very well have cost the Titans the game.

“I thought we played pretty well, but offensively we shot ourselves in the foot,” he said. “We made some mistakes and took some bad penalties that really put us in a hole.”

The Titans turned the ball over three times with one of their two fumbles coming just nine yards before the goal line.

Jordan Harrison led the way for Warren Woods-Tower, rushing for 198 yards and picking up three touchdowns.

Matt Bell scored on a 65-yard run for the Titans.

Nico Martini and Joel Radvansky each had seven tackles, while Mike Davis (sack) finished with six. Trey Barbour had five tackles and a fumble recovery.

Fitzgerald will look to continue its undefeated season in a crossover game at Lincoln next week. Warren Woods-Tower returns to league play in the MAC Gold, visiting Marysville.
