Ford has had no trouble hitting the softball early in the season.

That wasn’t the case Monday, but it didn’t matter.

The Falcons mustered up just three hits, one of which was a two-run double from Lauren Prebelich in the fourth inning, and got by Romeo, 3-1, in a MAC Red Division game.

“It was a tough day to hit,” Ford coach Matt Joseph said. “The wind was blowing in. Both pitchers were outstanding. Both had great command of their pitches.”

Emily Karas got the win, scattering eight hits and striking out two, while Madisyn Collins allowed three hits and fanned two.

Ford (1-0, 7-0) scored all three of its runs in the fourth. Meagan Vervaecke (run) and Gabby Dobroczynski each had hits.

Joseph also complimented the play of outfielder Jacqueline Nicholas, who “made some outstanding catches to save runs.”

Morgan Gardner (run) and Madison Jones had two hits each for the Bulldogs (0-1, 6-1), while Collins drove in a run.

“The MAC Red is really balanced,” Joseph said. “It’s great to start off with a win because you don’t want to fall too far behind. You can’t get into any bad stretches.”
